Yenching Academy Scholarship

Yenching Academy is an opportunity to pursue a two-year, interdisciplinary masters degree in China Studies at Peking University in Beijing. Academy courses are available in both Chinese and English; it is possible to complete the degree with courses taught in English. Yenching Academy seeks each year to select a cohort with broad academic and geographic representation who are eager to learn more about China. Candidates are not required to have Chinese language experience but should have a strong interest in China. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree by August in order to accept the scholarship.

Award

The Yenching Academy provides full fellowships to its Scholars, and offers them a wide array of interdisciplinary courses on China within broadly defined fields of the humanities and social sciences. Working closely with their academic mentors, Yenching Scholars create their own study paths by choosing courses from six research areas. They participate in a variety of extracurricular activities and field studies, organized by the Yenching Academy, and designed by scholars themselves. Studying at the Academy is an exceptional opportunity to take part in intercultural exchanges and interdisciplinary learning, developing both personally and professionally.

Eligibility

Senior, Alumni, WashU endorsement required

Candidates are not required to have Chinese language experience but should have a strong interest in China. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree by August in order to accept the scholarship. Currently enrolled students must apply through WashU by the campus deadline in order to be considered for the national competition. Students may not apply directly for the fellowship without being nominated by their undergraduate university.
